The start of hurricane season [which runs from June through November] prompts the ILA~USMX Joint Safety Committee (JSC) to once again alert all waterfront management and labor interests to the importance of being aware of and adhering to in-house [many stevedores and terminal operators have their own written tropical storm plans] and relevant regulatory agency preparedness policies.
Historically, the JSC would provide our constituents an entry link to the U.S. Coast Guard’s Homeport website where access to each individual USCG sector’s published heavy weather plans could be found and downloaded. As of April 15, 2025, however; over the objection of many, the Homeport website has been discontinued owing to alleged budgetary imperatives; with no real replacement available as yet.
Our best advice is in keeping current with your USCG Sector’s plans is to be in touch with each such Sector’s Captain of the Port, and for that purpose we provide a link that will allow contact: https://navcen.uscg.gov/port-status
