NORTH BERGEN, NJ (November 5, 2021) – The International Longshoremen’s Association Civil, Human and Women’s Rights Committee will be honoring four leaders at its Eighth Annual Dinner on Saturday, November 6th at the Renaissance Newark Airport Hotel in Elizabeth, New Jersey, according to an announcement by Herbert Hall, Sr., Chairman and Rodney Owens, Vice Chairman.

Clayola Brown, President of the A. Philip Randolph Institute, who was recently appointed Civil, Human & Women’s Rights Director at the AFL-CIO, will headline the list of honorees that also includes, Dave Adam, Chair and CEO of United States Maritime Alliance (USMX); and ILA officers Alan Robb and Jim Paylor. Robb and Paylor are top ILA Executive Officers, having served for six years as ILA Assistant General Organizers. Alan Robb is also the President of the ILA’s South Atlantic and Gulf Coast District.

Clayola Brown has served as President of the A. Philip Randolph Institute since 2004 and is regarded as one of the most progressive, intelligent, and influential labor leaders in the country. During her career as an officer with UNITE HERE union, she served as a Vice President and Executive Board member on the AFL-CIO. She made history as the first woman to lead APRI, an organization of Black trade unionists dedicated to fighting for racial equality and economic justice. Sister Brown has also served on the NAACP National Board.

In his role with USMX, Dave Adam has been part of successfully negotiating two landmark six-year Master Contract agreements with the ILA. Along with ILA President Harold Daggett, Dave Adam has co-chaired the ILA Children’s Fund Hole in the Wall Gang Camp Golf Outing for a decade and has helped raise over $3 million for the Camp for children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

At the ILA’s 2015 Convention in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Alan Robb and Jim Paylor were both elected ILA Assistant General Organizers. They each have enjoyed long careers with the ILA serving in a variety of Local, District and International offices.

The ILA’s Atlantic Coast District Civil Rights Committee will pay tribute to the late William Bernard Dudley, who was appointed chair of the ACD Civil Rights Committee in 2011 by then President Dennis A. Daggett, and led it until his untimely death last year.

The ILA’s Civil, Human and Women’s Committee is led by Herbert Hall, Sr. Chairman and Rodney Owens, as Vice Chairman. Other Committee members include: Gregory L. Washington, Recording Secretary; Mary Ann Gillespie, Secretary-Treasurer; and Committee Members Michael J.
