We are honored to have the backing of Houston City Controller Chris Hollins as we continue our strike in pursuit of fair wages, benefits, and against automation with respect for all longshore workers. Hollins, a long-time advocate for working families, attended the strike and shared his heartfelt support for the members of the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA).

In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of standing together in these critical times.

“Hey, Chris Hollins, here your city controller, and I’m here today to stand with workers. ILA represents folks who are trying to feed their families, who work hard every single day, down to Port of Houston and the Port of Houston powers our city and keeps food on our table and make sure the things that we take for granted in our daily lives, are available to us. So we have to take care of these workers. They’ve been working hard without fair wages for a number of years, and now’s the time to make that right. So they’ve been at the table ready to make a fair deal, but it’s about making sure that we’re taking care of them. These corporations that are taking home billions and billions of profits, we’re not asking them to not be profitable. But we’re asking them to give a fair shake to the workers and make sure that the folks who are doing this hard work that make this all possible, that they share and have prosperity. And so we stand for work. We hope that this strike ends, but we’re ready to stand with workers for the long haul, and I’ll be here to do that every day I can.”

His words remind us that when we stand united, we are stronger in our fight for dignity and fairness. The ILA is grateful for the support of leaders like Chris Hollins, who understand the challenges facing working men and women and are committed to fighting alongside us.

As we continue our strike, we stand firm in our resolve to secure a fair contract that protects the rights and the jobs of our members. With supporters like Hollins in our corner, we know we are not alone in this fight.

Thank you, Chris Hollins, for standing with the ILA and advocating for justice for all workers.
