On Saturday, December 6, 2025, ILA Local 1423 in Brunswick, Georgia hosted its annual Christmas Party — honoring retirees from both Brunswick and Savannah to a warm and festive celebration. The event brought together generations of longshore workers to honor the men and women whose dedication, sacrifice, and commitment helped shape the ILA we know today.
The celebration featured a generous lineup of door prizes, all donated by the workers themselves. Prizes included restaurant gift cards, a 43-inch Smart VIZIO TV, a Cuisinart air fryer, a customized ILA Local 1423 blanket, a Keurig with custom ILA mugs, a $50 VISA gift card, custom tumblers, a self-care bag, and a $200 cash giveaway.
In his remarks, President Freddie Sams shared heartfelt appreciation for the retirees:
“This past Saturday, we came together to honor the extraordinary men and women whose dedication has strengthened this industry and shaped the path we walk today. To our retirees—we extend our heartfelt appreciation. Your years of service, your commitment, and your sacrifice have paved the way for future generations. You didn’t just work in this industry—you helped build it.We also want to give a sincere thank you to International Vice President Vince Cameron for coming down to support this celebration. Your presence added honor to this moment, and we appreciate the leadership and encouragement you continue to provide.
And finally, a special word of gratitude to our secretaries for putting this entire event together. Your planning, organization, and hard work made this celebration possible. You ensured that our retirees received the recognition they truly deserve, and we thank you for your dedication and excellence.
To our retirees—we salute you, we honor you, and we thank God for the path you’ve paved.
May your legacy continue to inspire generations to come.”
Each retiree also received a thoughtful gift bag upon arrival, which included a reusable Christmas cup with lid and straw, a pen flashlight, a pair of Christmas socks, an ILA pen and notepad set, and Werther’s Originals.
