Local Union in Ft. Lauderdale Expertly Unload Holland Zaandam and Rotterdam Cruise Ships

Ft. Lauderdale, FL., April 3, 2020 – After days of uncertainty over their final destination, the Zaandam and Rotterdam cruise ships had passengers disembark Thursday night at the Fort Lauderdale port.

We are grateful to have brave men and women in the ILA that sacrifice so much each and every day. We are on the front line of all cargo that comes into the United States no matter the circumstances or conditions.

The ILA is the largest union of maritime workers in North America, it has always been their core value to protect the quality of life of workers and the communities in which they live. The ILA is on the front line of the waterfront and they take this responsibility very seriously.

“Those workers handling the luggage and equipment for these ships, are members of the International Longshoremen’s Association Local 1526. These are the brave men and women of Broward County on the front line, who wanted to make sure that this sensitive operation was not only safe for all workers within Port Everglades, but for everyone involved. ILA along with all members of Port Everglades Association are working diligently to curb the spread of the Coronavirus. These are unprecedented times, and together we will get through this!” – ILA Local 1526 President – Johnnie Dixon

Additional information and updates will be made available via the ILA website: www.iladistrict.com and Facebook Page.

About: The South Atlantic & Gulf Coast District (SAGCD-ILA) represents over 30,000 longshoremen on the South Atlantic and Gulf Coast (Brownsville, Texas to Wilmington, North Carolina). The roots of the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) began over 100 years ago during colonial America and the arrival of ships bearing goods from Europe. www.iladistrict.com
