DAY THREE of the ILA International Convention was kicked off with John Daggett, Atlantic Coast District General Vice President, taking the podium. He spoke about human work being replaced by automation and how it’s not good for our union, country or our families. We must fight for every single job and protect our members.

Willie Adams spoke about how we are the backbone of America and how we must leave here with a plan on how to handle automation, artificial intelligence, and the many challenges that we have in the future because we have an obligation to the younger generation.

“We have been essential workers since the start of the ILA and the ILWU.”

“I will say, and I caution the employers….Do not take us very lightly. Do not.”

“You are a national treasure worth fighting and worth dying for. God Bless the ILA.”

Paddy Crumlin, the President of the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) gave a fiery speech on the history of the union, its importance in the world and how we have strength in numbers when we unite worldwide.

Jordi Aragunde, the IDC International Labor Coordinator, is leading the fight for the IDC. So far this week, the ILA has raised half a million dollars for the IDC, with pledges from the International, Districts, Locals and local councils.

Paul DeMaria, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer at USMX, said that the USMX is committed to getting a new Master Contract and committed to the local negotiations that follow.

Benny Holland, Executive Vice President Emeritus of the ILA, echoed the game plan made by President Daggett and asked the ILA delegates to take that game plan back home to its’ members.
