SAGCD President Alan A. Robb’s 2023 Message Remembering Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dear Friends:

We celebrate and memorialize Martin Luther King Jr. who would be 94 in 2023. We pause as we recall his tragic assassination in 1968. We recall the many others struck down in the pursuit of civil rights and equal rights for all.  We recall those fallen resulting from abuses of others. Martin Luther King, Jr. lived his life attempting to unite this country, not divide it. It is sad and disappointing that today we face perhaps even worse divisions. We watched in horror as we witnessed a few extremists’ highjack the United States House of Representatives. Every vote counts my friends! Reverend King understood and advocated for working men and women. Remember, he was assassinated while supporting the sanitation workers of Memphis, Tennessee. He believed labor unions were the roadmap to better working and living conditions for all, not just the few. He had a dream for a better America. We must always work toward fulfilling that dream! Stopping to remember Reverend King’s legacy allows us to confront today’s demons with more vigor, with greater strength. Let us pledge to work hard toward seeing his dream become closer to reality.  May God bless the United States of America; God bless the ILA.

Sincerely,
Alan A. Robb
