GALVESTON, Texas — The energy, excitement, and spirit of solidarity were on full display as the 93rd South Atlantic and Gulf Coast District (SAGCD) Convention officially kicked off at the beautiful San Luis Resort in Galveston, Texas on Sunday, July 26th 2026.

More than 1,000 delegates, officers, members, retirees, vendors, and guests have gathered from across the South Atlantic and Gulf Coast District to take part in one of the International Longshoremen’s Association’s most important events. Registration opened Sunday, welcoming attendees from every corner of the District as they prepared for a week focused on leadership, fellowship, education, and shaping the future of our union.

From the moment the doors were opened, the excitement was evident. Delegates checked in, reunited with longtime friends and brothers and sisters from across the District, met new members, and received convention materials as anticipation continued to build for the days ahead.

This year’s convention promises an outstanding lineup of distinguished speakers, educational sessions, industry vendors, exhibits, and family activities, providing opportunities for every attendee to learn, network, and strengthen the bonds that have defined the ILA for generations.

As delegates prepare for this week’s committee meetings, reports, discussions, and voting, one message stands above all others:

Your Participation Matters

Every delegate represents the voices of their local union, and every conversation, vote, and shared experience contributes to the continued strength of the South Atlantic and Gulf Coast District. The knowledge gained throughout the week will return home with each attendee, helping strengthen locals and better prepare the next generation of union leadership.

An Evening to Remember

The celebration officially began Sunday evening with a lively Welcome Pool Party, where members and their families gathered to relax, reconnect, and enjoy the beginning of what promises to be an unforgettable convention.

Providing the soundtrack for the evening was the outstanding DJ Charles Seaton Jr. of EyeCon Entertainment, whose music kept the crowd energized as attendees enjoyed great food, fellowship, and dancing beneath the Texas sky. Laughter filled the resort as old friendships were renewed and new ones were formed in an atmosphere that reflected the true spirit of the ILA family.

Then, shortly before 9:00 p.m., the excitement reached another level.

Guests paused, looked skyward, and witnessed something never before seen at an ILA convention—a spectacular drone light show presented by Sky Elements.

Hundreds of synchronized drones illuminated the night sky, creating breathtaking images celebrating the history, pride, and many crafts of the International Longshoremen’s Association. The remarkable display honored the men and women who keep America’s ports moving while showcasing the innovation and vision that continues to move the District forward.

The performance drew cheers and applause from the crowd and immediately became one of the most memorable moments in convention history.

A Week of Opportunity

The 93rd SAGCD Convention is more than a meeting—it’s an opportunity to celebrate our accomplishments, discuss the challenges ahead, exchange ideas, and build an even stronger future for our members.

Throughout the week, delegates will hear from union leadership, participate in important discussions affecting the maritime industry, visit exhibitors showcasing the latest products and services, and take part in events designed to strengthen the fellowship that has always been at the heart of the ILA.

Together, we will continue the proud tradition of protecting our members, supporting our families, and advancing the future of waterfront labor.

Welcome to the 93rd SAGCD Convention. Here’s to a productive week, meaningful discussions, lasting friendships, and a successful convention in Galveston, Texas.
